Did you know?

Now a Artisan Centre, Zanzibar was providing revellers nights in Newcastle being a premium destination. The site on which the 'Crystal' stands was a coal yard prior to a snooker/billiard hall being built. In 1958 it was transformed into a dance hall - The Crystal Ballroom - With its eastern and tropical themed displays. In the 1960's the pop scene took hold, it became a mecca for the pop scene with its three floors, it was the best place to go for live pop music. On the upper floors you would find the Golden Goblet and the in the basement was Bali Hai with the Ballroom between the two levels. Over the years the names of the floors and look of the venue have changed. The 'Crystal' doors closed in circa 1976 and that might of ended the story except it became 'Tiffany's' and then 'Zanzibar'. 'Zanzibar' closed in 2004, after serving over a half a century as the regions premier nightclub. But the story does not end there...

Now in 2019, The Zanzibar will reopened as a market for Independent Artisan Traders serving customers from food, drinks, antique shopping, art, gifts, fitness, spa treatments and much more.
